Deep Cleaning vs. Standard Cleaning: What Is the Difference?
5 min read
These two terms get thrown around a lot, and booking the wrong one is the most common reason people feel let down (or overcharged) by a cleaning service. Here is the plain difference.
Standard (recurring) cleaning
A standard clean maintains a home that is already in decent shape. Think surfaces wiped, floors vacuumed and mopped, bathrooms and kitchen cleaned and sanitized, beds made, trash out, and everything tidied.
It is designed to be repeated on a schedule, so it focuses on the visible, high-touch areas that get dirty fastest.
Deep cleaning
A deep clean goes after the buildup a standard clean does not touch every visit: baseboards, door frames, inside cabinets and drawers, appliance interiors, grout and tile, vents, and detailed scrubbing throughout.
It takes longer and costs more because it is a reset. Most homes need one to start recurring service, and then again once or twice a year.
Which one should you book?
Book a deep clean if it has been more than a few months since a professional clean, if you are moving in or out, or if you are hosting a big event.
Book a standard clean if your home already gets cleaned regularly and you just want to keep it that way.
Not sure? Start with a deep clean, then move to bi-weekly standard service. That is the path that keeps a home consistently clean for the lowest ongoing cost.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just book a standard clean to save money?
You can, but if the home has heavy buildup a standard clean will not reach it, and you may be disappointed. A deep clean first, then recurring standard service, gives the best result for the money.
