Move-In Cleaning in Peachtree City: What To Do First

Do this before anything is unloaded

Kitchen cabinet and drawer interiors come first, because you are about to fill them and you will not empty them again for a very long time. The same goes for closet shelving and the inside of any built in storage.

Floors are next, and specifically the edges and corners that furniture is about to cover. A baseboard behind a bookcase does not get cleaned again until the bookcase moves.

Then anything that lives behind an appliance. If the fridge or washer is coming out or going in, that is the moment for the floor and wall behind it. This is the single most skipped job in a move and the one people regret.

The parts that are genuinely about the previous occupant

Bathrooms deserve real attention rather than a wipe, because this is a space where someone else lived intimately and where moisture means anything left behind has had somewhere to grow. Toilet seat and fittings, the shower and its grout, and the extractor fan cover if there is one.

Kitchen appliance interiors matter for the same reason. Oven, fridge seals, the dishwasher filter and the microwave. These are routinely presented as clean because the outside was wiped.

Air filters and vent covers are worth a look on day one. They are cheap, they are usually overdue, and a filter left in place from a previous household is quietly moving that household through your air.

What can wait

Windows, walls and anything decorative. They will still be there in a month and you will have more energy, and the interior of a window is not a job that gets harder because you have moved in.

Deep carpet cleaning is the one genuine exception to waiting, but only if the carpet is staying. Doing it while the rooms are empty is dramatically easier and it dries faster with nothing on it. If there is any chance the carpet is being replaced, do not spend money on cleaning it.

A note on new builds

Peachtree City has a lot of newer housing, and a new build is not the same job as a previously occupied home. There is no other household to clean out. What there is instead is construction residue: fine drywall dust in every track and crevice, adhesive residue on glass and hardware, and sawdust in cabinet interiors.

Drywall dust in particular is worth taking seriously because it is extremely fine, it settles into everything, and dry dusting simply relocates it. It wants damp removal and a good deal of patience, and it will keep reappearing for the first few weeks as it works loose from the places it has hidden.

Timing it around the closing

The ideal is keys in hand, house empty, cleaners in, truck the following day. That is often not how it goes, and the common squeeze is a same day close and move where nobody has a gap at all.

If you only get a few hours, spend them on cabinet interiors, bathrooms and appliance interiors, and let the floors be done properly after the furniture is placed. Those three are the jobs that become genuinely hard once the house is full.
